Privacy Policy for NetArmature

This Privacy Policy explains what information NetArmature's products — the Chrome/Firefox browser extension and the Radar Familiar de NetArmature Android app (“NetArmature,” “we”) — access, how that information is used, and how it is stored. NetArmature is a scam-detection tool for jobs, rental listings, travel bookings, and money-transfer sites. The sections below describe the browser extension first; the Android app has its own section further down, since it works differently.

Summary

NetArmature analyzes the content of web pages you visit to warn you about possible scams. All analysis happens locally, in your own browser. NetArmature does not operate its own servers, does not create user accounts, and does not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party. The only outside network requests NetArmature makes are public domain-lookup queries described below.

Information NetArmature Accesses

To do its job, NetArmature reads the following from the pages you visit:

• Page content: the visible text, title, and URL of the current page.
• Navigation activity within a tab: the sequence of pages visited in a single browser tab, including how each page was reached (typed, clicked, or redirected), used only to detect suspicious redirect chains (a common scam technique).
• Domain names: the domain of the page you’re viewing, used to check its registration age (see “Domain Age Lookups” below) and to compare it against a small built-in list of well-known legitimate platforms.

NetArmature does not access your browsing history outside of the currently open tab, your saved passwords, your files, your keystrokes, or the content of other tabs or windows you have not interacted with.

Where Your Data Is Processed and Stored

• Analysis runs locally. The scam-detection logic executes entirely inside your browser (in the extension’s background script and popup). Page content is never transmitted to NetArmature or to any server we operate — because no such server exists.
• Local storage only. NetArmature uses your browser’s built-in chrome.storage.local to keep:
  • A short-lived, per-tab navigation history (capped in size, and cleared automatically when a tab closes), used only to detect redirect chains.
  • An optional feedback log: if you tap the 👍 / 👎 buttons after an analysis, we store the page’s domain (not the full URL), the detected category, the risk level and score, and your rating. This is capped at 500 entries and stays on your device — it is used only to help evaluate and improve NetArmature’s detection accuracy over time. It is never uploaded anywhere.
• Your selected language is stored locally so the extension remembers your preference between sessions.

None of this data leaves your device. We do not have access to it, and we cannot see it.

Domain Age Lookups (the only outside network requests)

To help judge whether a domain looks newly registered (a common scam indicator), NetArmature queries public RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) servers — the modern, standardized replacement for WHOIS — for the domain of the page you’re currently viewing:

• rdap.org
• rdap.verisign.com
• rdap.denic.de
• rdap.nic.io
• rdap.nic.ai

These are public domain-registry lookup services, queried the same way any WHOIS/RDAP client would. Only the domain name itself is sent — no personal information, browsing history, or page content is included in these requests. These queries are subject to the privacy practices of the RDAP operators listed above, which NetArmature does not control.

No Account Required

NetArmature does not require you to create an account or provide personal information to use its core tools. NetArmature does not sell personal data or use it to build advertising profiles.

Permissions NetArmature Requests, and Why

• activeTab / scripting: to read the content of the page you ask NetArmature to analyze.
• webNavigation: to detect redirect chains within a tab (a common scam technique), as described above.
• storage: to save the local-only data described above.
• Host permissions for the RDAP domains listed above: to perform the domain-age lookups described above.

NetArmature does not request access to your browsing history, bookmarks, downloads, or any data beyond what’s described in this policy.

Radar Familiar de NetArmature (Android App)

This section applies specifically to the Radar Familiar de NetArmature Android app (package com.netarmature.radarfamiliar), which uses the same detection engine as the browser extension but works differently because it runs on a phone instead of inside a browser.

What the app sends to our server

Unlike the browser extension, the app relies on a server we operate (netarmature-api.onrender.com) to run its detection engine. Depending on what you check, the app sends:

• The link you paste, share, or scan from a QR code.
• For a pasted message, a shared screenshot, or a scanned QR code that isn’t a link: the text only. Screenshots and QR codes are read on your phone itself — the image is never uploaded, only the text or link found in it.
• If you use “Detect a scam QR code” or “Check before you pay”: the link, crypto wallet address, and/or company/recipient name you choose to check.

This data is used only to return a risk analysis to you. It is not sold, shared with advertisers, or used to build an advertising profile.

How we analyze a link

To judge whether a link looks safe, our server may also fetch the destination page itself (the site the link points to) and look at structural signals — whether it has a contact or privacy-policy link, links to real social media accounts, a reasonable amount of visible text, and whether it uses urgency language commonly seen in scam pages. This only happens for certain borderline cases, not every link you check. We do not store, log, or share the content of the pages we fetch — it’s used in memory to produce your risk score and then discarded. We never fetch pages on private or internal networks.

What’s stored, and where

• On your phone only: your check history and your Settings (Senior Mode, trusted contact) are stored locally on your device and never leave it.
• Device identifier: the app generates a random ID on your phone (no account, no email, no login) to link your phone to a Family group if you choose to create or join one.
• Family group data: if you create or join a Family group, the display name you enter and a summary of high-risk alerts (score and short description, not the full link or message) are stored on our server so other members of your group can see them.

Camera permission

The app requests camera access only to scan QR codes when you tap “Detect a scam QR code.” The camera feed is processed on your phone in real time to read the code; no photo or video is saved or uploaded — only the decoded text or link is sent for analysis, as described above.

No account required

The app doesn’t require you to create an account or provide your email, phone number, or real name to use its core features (a display name is only needed if you choose to use the optional Family plan).

Children’s Privacy

NetArmature is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, note them in the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing.
